Dr. Tariq Javed, M.D. specializes in kidney disorder diagnosis and the care of patients with diabetes, hypertension and/or kidney disorders. Located in Central California, Dr. Javed provides the most advanced kidney healthcare to the Central California community.
When To Refer a Patient
These are some of the conditions that require nephrology intervention:
- Unexplained proteinuria quantitated greater than 500 mg/day.
- Nephrotic syndrome (Heavy proteinuria, edema, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia, +/- hypertension)
- All patients with GFR < 60 and GFR declining.
- Calculated GFR < 60 and concomitant proteinuria, hematuria and/or pyuria.
- A patient expected to need dialysis
- Incidental diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease on CT, US or MRI
- Patients with the combination of proteinuria and hematuria or pyuria (even when proteinuria is low-grade). See note below.
- Patients who have a kidney transplant
This list is not absolute, and there are other conditions that you may desire to consult with us about, including:
- Sudden worsening of blood pressure in a previously stable patient
- Severe and/or uncontrolled hypertension:
- Unexplained hematuria
- Kidney stones
- Medullary sponge kidney
- Electrolyte abnormalities such as hyponatremia, hypercalcemia, acid base disturbances, and hyperkalemia, among others.
